Continuing education is on at the 3rd International Ayurveda conference taking place in Boston this August, I will be attending and presenting at a short side panel discussion in Yoga 4R Dosha.
Get a taste of that below where I give you asana for immediate relief when out of balance.
Excess of Dosha:
Vata when out of balance experiences anxiety, nervousness, general dryness, gas and un-groundedness.
Pitta when out of balance experiences anger, inflammation, sometimes rage and/or any condition ending with "isis".
Kapha when out of balance experiences feelings of attachement, heavyness, increase in mucus formation.
IMMEDIATE RELIEF THROUGH ASANA AND PRANAYAMA
Vata types: sit, ground, nurture yourself. Seated forward bends of any kind affords immediate relief.
Pranayama: Kapalabhati & Bhastrika, right nostril breathing. (More on this next newsletter)
Pitta types: If overly heated in the head (as an extreme anger) best choice is to do cooling pranayama right away: Shitali or left nostril breathing.
Asana: cooling postures: Chandra Namaskar, seated forward bends and twists of any kind are also good.
Kaspha types: If having a hard time getting moving, ask a good friend to encourage you to go with you to do ANY activity, kaphas need to overcome the lethargy by doing exercise and heating up their systems. They need to increase their overall attittude towards movement. They require encouragement.
Asana: Surya Namaskar, any standing postures as well as arm balances prove best as they create internal heat and require focus.
Pranayama: Kapalabhati & Bhastrika.
All 3 doshas could benefit from daily Nadi Sodhana (alternate nostril breathing)

Ayurveda Recipe and tips
TOFU TEMPURA
All doshas
Serves 2
Ingredients:
1 lb semi-firm tofu
1/4 cup of corn flour
Pinch of salt
1/4 cup of sunflower oil
Method:
Cut tofu into 1" cubes.
Put flour, salt and tofu in a paper bag and shake.
Pour oil into a thin 6" stainless steel skillet.
Heat until hot BUT not smoking.
Lower heat slightly and put 8 cubes of tofu in at a time.
Use wooden chopsticks to turn cubes until golden brown on each side.
Place on two pieces of cheesecloth in a colander in the sink to soak up excess oil.
Serve with sweet and sour sauce.
Tempura batter variations:
1 tsp agar-agar powder
1/4 cup of water
1/2 cup of whole wheat flour
pinch of salt
1/2 cup of water
Dilute agar-agar in 1/4 c of water. Mix ingredients together and whip into a smooth batter.
Add enough water to make it thick and fluid.
Dip tofu pieces into batter and fry.
Serve hot.
*** ALLERGY SEASON ***
Consider using a NETI pot on a daily basis to avoid unpleasant sinus and cold-like symptoms when you should be playing at the park instead.
